Cycling to Reduce Symptoms and Raise Awareness


Pedaling for Parkinson’s was founded in 2003 by Dr. Jay Alberts while riding a tandem bike with a woman suffering from Parkinson’s disease.  The day after a ride she felt like she didn’t have Parkinson’s anymore.  The results have been studied at length and participants riding 3 days per week over an 8 week period have shown improvement in symptoms by as much as 35%.

That is an incredible increase in mobility, confidence and personal safety; all in a relatively short amount of time.

Classes are offered nationwide at a variety of fitness centers, and the residents of Birch Hill were lucky enough to participate.
